Goodbye Old
I thought this video would make a fitting farewell to the old year. Happy New Year everyone!
Highlights of 2010
In 2010, my photography relied more heavily than ever before upon the unparalleled photographic potential of my hometown, Juneau. Rain, snow, or sunshine – I continue to be exceedingly grateful to live within such an awe inspiring and perpetually changing landscape. This gallery of images represents what I consider to be some of my most successful work in the last twelve months. As always, my hope is that the pictures I share will help build a deep appreciation for the natural world and for God who grants us each moment in it. I pray that through 2011 we will grow to know even more!
For Unto You is Born This Day
Whomever may stop by and visit this site over the next few days, I wanted to take the time to wish you a very merry Christmas! It’s a white one here in Juneau, and the peacefulness in the falling snow brings a physical metaphor of the peace we receive through our Savior, Jesus Christ. God’s only way to lead us in the path of salvation was to send His Son, and so we celebrate with the greatest joy His coming in the form of a baby to the most humble surroundings as a gift to all mankind. May God’s blessings be on each and every one of you. – Kent
Good Afternoon, Evening, and Night

"Cold Lake" - a daylight (little bit) veiw of the location where I spent some cold night hours making these other photographs
Around the Lake

"Mendenhall Towers" - the areas highest peaks catch late afternoon light while clouds cast dark shadows on all their surroundings

"Thunder in Winter" - the steep face of Thunder Mountain takes on a gentler appearance from this perspective

"Snowy Sunset" - where the clouds appeared to have pinched the sky out of the horizon, sunlight slipped through over the south shore of the lake

"Giants in Mist" - as the sun set, a thick mist formed, obscuring the lake while the mountains loomed above
Portrait of Happiness

"Mirth" - Della laughs at some of her favorite "jokes" during a Thanksgiving weekend portrait session
If I were only allowed a single portrait subject for the rest of my life, wouldn’t it be an obvious choice? Della’s charm continues to overcome my limitations as a photographer, the whole operation ends up resulting in quality family time. You can’t complain about that. For those lacking a studio lighting set-up (as I certainly do), I suggest taking advantage large windows and the brightest time of day. This photo was made while the sun remained mostly hidden by high overcast, and the window light was supplemented by three single-bulb lamps in corners of the room.
