"New Cave Monochrome" - an early look at the new cave under the Mendenhall Glacier

Sub-glacial caves are without a doubt, my favorite photographic subject. Part of their magic lies in their temporary nature, but watching caves melt away can feel almost tragic. A couple years back, a cave that I had spent hours, and days, and years enjoying through all the seasons melted into a memory. It was because of that loss that the discovery of the cave pictured above brought so much excitement to my summer. The new cave lacks a few of the photogenic qualities of the original (it is extremely dark by comparison), but it is fresh, exciting, and here right now. I can’t wait until my next visit.
