I’ve kayaked on the Mendenhall Lake plenty of time, but this morning was my first time canoeing. Maybe it’s not as fast, but it’s pretty comfortable (not to mention lighter for carrying from the car), and it was essential for our adventure of the day: climb icebergs! Climbing the bergs on the lake is one thing when they’re trapped in ice that’s two feet thick; it’s another thing entirely when they’re dripping like crazy and the lake is lapping at their sides. I was balancing in a canoe tethered to a berg by means of an ice screw while videoing Corey’s and Alan’s climbing.

…I could always get out next time…
